Quote:Small amounts of radioactive iodine detected in air samples
28 Oct 2016 16:18
Earlier this week, the Norwegian Radiation Protection Authority NRPA stated that a small leak of radioactive substance had occurred in a research reactor located in Halden in Southern Norway. It is very unlikely that the iodine detected in Finland and Estonia comes from Halden, as there have been no air currents from the direction of Norway during the sampling period.
Quote:The origin of iodine detected in the air still unclear

The origin of the iodine is still unknown. As only iodine was detected in the air sample, it was apparently not emitted from a nuclear reactor, for instance. It is more likely that iodine was released from a plant manufacturing or processing iodine. Radioactive iodine is used in hospitals, for instance.
