states told to stop food stamps nov 1
States across the country are being told to stop the supplemental nutrition assistance program for the month of November, pending further notice.

That’s according to a letter from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Fox 13 obtained a copy from the Crossroads Urban Center in downtown Salt Lake City. Crossroads says if Utah families don’t get food stamps, they’ll turn to the local food pantries, which are already strapped due to the government shutdown. Homeless people Fox 13 talked to, some who use SNAP, say losing food stamps would mean going hungry.read more

Here as well I'm just outside Augusta Ga. The unemployment rate here is 8.6% ( so the local News says) but keep in mind that figure only counts people drawing or applying for Unemployment checks. The rest are not counted.

If they shut down the Food stamp program I think we will see Civil Disobedience.

This why DHS was buying millions of rounds of hollowpoints? Martial law? I'm not sure it'll happen, Barry might step in and 'save the day' (as he failed to in Benghazi) blame the fear on the GOP, rescue the entitlement class. 13.gif too many different ways this could play out for me to have a clue.

Yup, they are saying on the radio that the Republicans have collapsed (again). Bit by bit the Republicans are handing over more authority to Obama the tyrant.

It's as if the elected officials in DC live in an alternative universe.

Food Assistance Benefits to Drop for Nearly 47 Million Americans This November

The 2009 Recovery Act’s temporary boost to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits is scheduled to end on November 1, 2013, resulting in a benefit cut for every SNAP household. For families of three, the cut will be $29 a month — a total of $319 for November 2013 through September 2014, the remaining months of fiscal year 2014.[2] That’s a serious loss, especially in light of the very low amount of basic SNAP benefits. Without the Recovery Act’s boost, SNAP benefits will average less than $1.40 per person per meal in 2014. (See Table 2 for estimates of the size of the SNAP cut in each state in fiscal year 2014.) Nationally, the total cut is estimated to be $5 billion in fiscal year 2014.

It seems unlikely that Congress will enact legislation to remedy this problem, as President Obama and some members of Congress have proposed. Consequently, states need to prepare for the benefit cuts — including determining how they will provide information about the upcoming benefit reduction to participating households and other stakeholders as well as how to manage increased client inquiries when the cut takes effect. http://www.cbpp.org/cms/?fa=view&id=3899

İmage

...The benefit cut in November will affect approximately 23 million low-income households. It likely will cause hardship for many households, so SNAP participants will be better prepared for the change if they know about it in advance.

Did anyone know about this or were they willfully ignorant. All the information is on the site and its been know by States for quite some time. The fact that people don't know about the cuts to SNAP is either the States didn't bother to tell people or people just didn't want to look. The increase to SNAP occur in 2009 its seems to be going back to that level, but worse due to inflation and no economic improvement since then. The fact that the EBT system has been down or playing up recently, no doubt has to do with the introduction of lower SNAP benefits.

I also found (SNAP) is the largest
nutrition assistance program administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA), serving more than 46 million low-income Americans. per year, at
a cost of more than $75 billion
SNAP’s goals are straightforward: To improve
participants’ food security and their access to a healthy diet.
http://www.iom.edu/~/media/Files/Report%...NAP_RB.pdf

So SNAP cost 75 Billion dollars a years, through not enough jobs around, people don't want to work, off shoring of jobs, taking the mick claiming disability or are genuinely disabled, Technology has made work obsolete, illegal immigrants taking jobs for less pay, etc...

Yet the Fed gives themselves & other private banks 85 Billion a Month! on top of whatever else the Fed hands out to foreign banks under the table! Yet Republican congress hasto cut a basic food benefit for the poorest people in the country?

The EBT crowd can join the rest of us who make too much income to qualify for anything free but don't have enough left over to get anything but ramen. I roll my own smokes and having a beer is a damn treat these days. Hell, a tube steak (hot dog) is a treat.

I can't recall wtf a steak tastes like, but EBT'er toss up 50 pounds of prime and all sorts of goodies on my dime.

Now, I'm not saying there isn't true need out there, but bona fide 'need' is prolly 1% of the dole.

Luckily, my diet won't change all that much when TSHTF. chuckle.gif

I just posted the facts, article's going around saying SNAP will end, No they just trimming the costs. Comparing to what the banks get every month its a little under a month's worth of Fed crack stimulus freebies. If they cut Snap significantly shït would hit the fan, perhaps that's what's needed for really change.

She makes more on welfare than working. If she had no kids she'd have to work and having kids she can't afford to work, who can pay daycare at $800/mnth/kid? You can't unless you make $70k/yr. Min wage don pay that. Having kids and collecting welfare is her job and it pays a helluva lot better than a job. What happened? gaah.gif

Around here,,,the plan for many girls is to have 4 kids,,,

then the day care is expensive enough that the girls don't have

to do mandatory look for work,,,or them find them a job,,,

basically retire,,,other than taking care of the future voters,,,

moms are right behind this,,,and guys do not have to marry the

girls,,,in fact everyone understands the deal from the start,,,

of course they better hope they keep getting welfare,,,they get

started in high school...

When they are driving a Cadillac SUV it means working at a job interferes with running their drug business.

Welfare doesn't support a steak and SUV lifestyle. So they collect welfare and food stamps AND sell drugs.
