I don't know what you guys are so freaked out about, you won the gold last year. Actually, as many golds as the US has won at the IIHF. Relax! You really are that food!!!

sorry f and g are too close on the keeyboard.

Been watching hockey since 1970.
I have learned to spot a team's weaknesses and strengths...
to pick up the vibes pretty early. Last year's team was better,
is all. Merely being a realist here chuckle.gif

And as you can see, the trend persists from the first 2 games:
Letting in goals on the penalty kill while not getting anything
done on the powerplay. What is it now...0 for 12? Oi vey!

Must say the 5 on 5 defense looks pretty good tonight, though.
Good performance, so far, with what we've got.

Gotta score the next goal. 0 - 2 would make it very, very difficult
to get back into the game.

Hehh.

Deep and high forechecking was always the way to get a handle
on the Canadians - their defensemen very often seem to be a wee
bit too big for their own good.

But to do it with 2 forecheckers is very energy-consuming.
You just have to capitalize on your chances...

Yup.

Not too bad.
Actually a pretty good performance from the Finnish team.

Clearly, Sweden and Canada seem to be the hottest contenders
for the gold medals.

For us, the tournament is pretty much over.
1 point out of the potential 9 so far... sad2.gif

...no, there's only 1 team eliminated in each group.

Could still be kept alive if we beat the Germans tomorrow.

Embarrassingly enough, yes.

Nah, all respect to Germany, they always give all.
But there's something they're just not doing right.
Been 25 years now...

Maybe "discipline" is a forbidden word over there 13.gif

Must say they seem to have the best hockey fans
of all of Europe, though. Great party crew.

Good news may come about soon JR, the farm teams are experimenting with a new format... It's seven minutes long — or until someone scores, of course — with the opening three minutes 4-on-4. Then, after the next whistle, it switches to 3-on-3 for the last four, leading to lots of room for creativity and scoring chances. If that doesn't decide things, it goes to a shootout, a concept that drives many a coach bonkers since it's almost like a skills competition. it seems to be cutting down on shootouts this year, and the NHL is watching close, so maybe international hockey will adopt it in the near future too!!
