This is another of the injection well quakes from the Guy swarm. This one was felt by friends in Bentonville, Arkansas which is in the far NW corner of the state.

Interesting, did it do any damge there or just rumbling?

Just rumbling. It has not actually been confirmed that the injection wells are to blame. That is just the way many are leaning at this point. There must be some decent evidence if they are implicating the gas/oil industry at all.

Don't pay so much attention to the Richter scale. It is mostly seen as obsolete for our needs. Pay more attention to the Mercalli intensity scale. The numbers from the Richter scale do not always correlate with damage. There are other contributing geological factors. For instance, it the area bedrock or sand? Buildings in a sandy area will be far more damaged from a small quake on the Richter scale than buildings with bedrock foundations over a higher scaled quake. The Mercalli Earthquake Intensity Scale measures how the quake is felt at a particular place. Basically, Richter measures how big a quake is but Mercalli measures how bad it is.

This article came out this morning.

----> CLICK HERE <----

Here are a few highlights to consider:

"It was the largest of more than 800 quakes to strike the area since September..."

"many residents are starting to notice gradual damage. Tarkington said her house has started to show cracks in ceilings and walls. "You can see the wear and tear on our houses," she said."

Everything gets shaken repeatedly. Everything gets shaken until it is good and loose. Then a quake the same size as the rest, or slightly larger, causes everything to fall apart. THAT is what causes people to die. THAT is what caused all the destruction in CC. In the meantime, authorities are misleading people about their safety by making statements like this:

"It's possible that a quake ranging from magnitude 5.0 to 5.5 could occur, but anything greater than that is highly unlikely, he said."

Great find Kreeper! A series of smaller rumblings over a period of time can obviously wreak as much havoc as a full blown eq. Every single vibration serves to weaken the structural integrity of buildings more and more, after a while it wouldn't take much to bring them down.
