That's the problem JR. Most of the people in those ares will not even consider that their structural integrity has been greatly diminished. They will take pictures off the walls and sit there watching the cracks grow larger and then they will be shocked when the damn roof falls in.

By the way, the Charleston, SC area will be a good place to keep an eye on. According to my Geologist buddy, strong evidence shows a better than 60% chance of a catastrophic quake hitting there in the next 20 years. They have had bigguns in the past (The last was in 1886.) and all evidence points to another one. That being the sandy area it is will mean devastation. There are still buildings in the historic part of town that have still have earthquake bolts running through the buildings. These are large bolts that were through the building to hold them together after the last quake.

Wow Kreeper, never heard of 'em, thanks quite interesting. With sand involved we're essentially talking liquefaction at considerably less magnitude eq's than with, for example; the clay soils I grew up with in the Midwest.
