Coincided with an X1 solar flare, coffeetime.gif

Of course, that's just coincidence. 13.gif

And the 6.0 in Panama coincided with a M6 Solar flare today.

Move along, nothing to see here.

These two EQs have the whole Ocean rocking, look at all the buoys in Event mode right now.

Not that this coincides with Todays XRAY absorption map:

damned.gif I've been occupied today and hadn't read about a flare or a quake in Panama.
Holy correlations boat man, buoy wonder is doing the M6 dance.

I do realize scientists insist there is no significant pattern between solar activity and more or larger earthquakes, but it's been apparent to me for some time one may have an impact on the other.
The last couple of days/events have gone a way to solidify my (unscientific) opinion.

That was massive at 8.2 and only 10ks deep , they are evacuating people to higher ground
so far only 8 dead , its the large after shocks that do the most damage .
I really feel for them because it dont get any easier
We are still getting them here in CH CH NZ --- got a 4.5 cuppla days ago -- all up since the first 7,1 just over three years ago we've had 13,028 of them !

they are on the rebuild of the city centre , it was completely demolished , large parts of the city have either bulged up or sunk down , all roads are badly damaged and the repair are gunna take YEARS all services like storm water and sewerage to be repaired an every house has to have its own pipes repaired
it seems never ending , PLUS people are at the end of their tether arguing with FOUR different bodies , the Gov EQC, Gov CERA , the CH CH city council AND THE BLOODY INSURANCE CO'S

Geeze Ocker, with four different govt agencies involved, there's no doubt it's an epic cluster fcuk.

What could make things better than dealing with people who love enforcing unnecessary rules?

Just add 4x the bureaucracy and watch the hilarity ensue. gaah.gif

Was there or is there still any sizeable tsunamis created by this powerful earthquake?

Quote:The 1960 Valdivia earthquake or Great Chilean Earthquake (Spanish: Terremoto de Valdivia/Gran terremoto de Chile) of Sunday, 22 May 1960 was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded, rating 9.5 on the moment magnitude scale. It occurred in the afternoon (19:11 GMT, 15:11 local time), and the resulting tsunami affected southern Chile, Hawaii, Japan, the Philippines, eastern New Zealand, southeast Australia, and the Aleutian Islands.

The epicenter was near Lumaco, approximately 570 kilometres (350 mi) south of Santiago, with Valdivia being the most affected city. The tremor caused localised tsunamis that severely battered the Chilean coast, with waves up to 25 metres (82 ft). The main tsunami raced across the Pacific Ocean and devastated Hilo, Hawaii. Waves as high as 10.7 metres (35 ft) were recorded 10,000 kilometres (6,200 mi) from the epicenter, and as far away as Japan and the Philippines.

damned.gif That's awfully strong. I was just reading this...

Quote:Mines across the State (in Australia) were disrupted yesterday after a massive solar flare knocked out signals from Russian global positioning satellites relied on by resource companies for GPS systems.

NASA rated the solar flare as one of the most serious in recent history, warning about a possible blackout of GPS and other communications systems.

What must be extremely terrifying is being anywhere when a really strong earthquake strikes and live through it and then have to experience very strong after shocks but then come to the shocking and horrifying realization that they might only be weaker pre shocks to a much more powerful main earthquake that cound be unleashed at any second...
