Nearly 13,000 Americans die in traffic accidents every year. Now Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is opening a new front in its war on drunk drivers, and it's getting help from the Alliance for Automobile Manufacturers and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

A new highway bill pending before Congress would instruct all 50 states to require all motorists convicted of driving under the influence to equip their cars with interlock systems that shut down a vehicle when a measured amount of alcohol is detected.

Husband of a co-worker got a DUI, suspended for a year. When he did get his licence back the total cost of fines and breathalyzer unit in his vehicle was $8,000. This is more about making money

A law has been in place here since August last year where breathalyzers are mandatory in school transports. You can't even start the damned vehicle if you're over the limit. I think that's a great idea, but for everyone? I don't see it... 13.gif

In public transport I'm all for it. It's part of a bus driver's job to be competent and sober. But to treat us all as criminals is just more money for the gov and corps.

They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to poor

dont understand how these work , surely drunk passengers breath in the car would affect the machine
and if the driver 's got to blow in a thingie to get car to start , what to stop someone else to doing this for him ??
