Quote:Whether or not it was their intention to set fire to the former plantation home, the police arrested a group of self-proclaimed amateur ghost hunters. The LeBeau Plantation House in New Orleans didn’t take long to burn to the ground. The seven men (ages 17 – 31) were charged with “arson, simple burglary, trespassing and criminal damage worth more than $50,000”. By the time the fire department arrived, there was no saving the 1850s plantation mansion rumored to be haunted.
[...]
investigators soon discovered that the ghost hunt was only undertaken after the group had spent the night drinking and doing drugs. It’s unclear what went on in the house other than that a fire was struck shortly after the men broke into the mansion.

I take it the SyFy series is off the table? Serious investigators always have permission from the owners before stepping foot on the property.
These jerks give paranormal investigators a bad name.

Well, the article did say that all six men were drinking and taking drugs and started the fire to lure the ghosts out. Yeah, this particular paranormal team seems really f**d up.

Life is like a penny, you can spend it on what you like, but you can ONLY spend it once.

Yeah, you really need to have all your faculties to do that right. Most of the time you're walking around in pitch dark with a camera in nightshot mode to guide you.
I'd venture a guess they had no cameras, digital voice recorders or even a K II meter with them, in fact it sounds like a line of shït they made up for partying in a house and burning it down with a doobah.

I wonder if fire really does cleanse the space?

Quote:One area resident who watched the house burning from a distance said it last was inhabited in the late 1970s, but had become a popular hangout for teenagers and other trespassers curious about the rumored hauntings.

Now it's most likely that teenagers that hung out at the vacant haunted house may have had something to do with the fire, but even the authorities say it may be a blessing so nobody gets hurt in the future at that very old home.

Also, the Amish chose to burn down the schoolhouse where a male shooter killed 10 small girls a few years back - they called it a 'cleansing'.

It finally occurred to me where the idea of cleansing by fire (Refiners fire) came to me. It's been a very long time since I picked up a bible.

Matthew 3:10-11

Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. “I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Quote:"If it was me I would burn the house down and move on," Robertson said as he laughed. "I don't believe in ghosts. I don't think the bible supports the concept of people coming back to haunt houses with chains and all that stuff. I do believe in demons, the bible clearly says there's demons and fallen angels."

Me either, but maybe the drinking and drugs just gave them enough courage to do the deed. dunno.gif

Really odd...dunno.gif In that train of thought, there are a lot of places that could use the torch. damned.gif Bobby Mackey's springs to mind.
That place is out there.

Have you actually been there? We were in a haunted hotel (was a former prison) and our room was definitely haunted; lights and TV going on and off by themselves, but I'm sensitive and I felt a presence. I joked with hubby that it was only interested in him what with the ghost being a con.

I wouldn't step foot in Bobby Mackey's. Spirits are one thing, but won't touch anything that comes across as diabolical.
It's very dangerous to be around, and these things are known to follow you home and hang around.
