Due to congressional budget cuts, the 38-year continuous U.S. Arctic satellite monitoring program is about to end, leaving researchers blind to ongoing Arctic sea ice losses.

Or maybe they noticed the Arctic ice sheet isn't shrinking and need an excuse to not monitor it for a while

And what about the record levels of ice in the south? What about the record levels of sea ice in the arctic that has forced the rerouting of shipping lanes?

I feel like we aren't getting the full story. I wonder why...

A convenient time to stop monitoring now that the sun is in the beginning stages of the Maunder Minimum.
Last time that went down 1645–1715 it was called the little ice age.
