"a .50 caliber machine gun [was fired at] at a "small motor vessel after it disregarded warnings and rapidly approached the U.S. ship" "30 miles from Dubai"

"There doesn't appear to be any indication the incident was terror-related"

"I can't emphasize enough that this has nothing to do with Iran," the official said.

Quote:The Navy official said it's not uncommon for Iranian speed craft to harass U.S. ships in the region, but in this case the boat wasn't Iranian.

Shoot first, ask questions later if anybody's left alive. 13.gif

iagree.gif That's all the beating of the war drums have accomplished so far. People around the world are saying ğck gas prices, walking and riding a bike are definitely in fashion in Finland.
I'd estimate 30% less vehicular traffic and 20% less transportation traffic. The higher it gets the more people here just tell them to go ğck themselves.

Follow the money on this one. No better way to get a spike in prices.

I'm a Boater myself

in an Emergency, where medical aid is not aboard

a Large ship usually always has aboard a medic and medicine

what??? what if it was a case of a small craft heading to a larger craft
for medical aid ?

50 miles out and the only help is a U.S. Ship,,

with an emergency aboard my boat

I would head for the Navy Vessel ,,, and if the emergency is life or death

I'd be making haste to get to it,,

if i have no radio to communicate with the Navy Craft,,,

see the possibilities ?

Oh yeah, I see where that's coming from, and probably all it was.
I also see they are grasping at every opportunity to make oil prices spike. This Iran move is all about the petrol dollar and keeping it afloat, not that it matters.
China's calling their fiat bluff with a gold standard which will eliminate debt based USD and Euros in a heartbeat.
All this is not going to go well for the west, and they are begging Russia to hit them at home if they start this thing.
At this point if the Russians invaded, they may very well be greeted as liberators. chuckle.gif

Why would this have anything to do with Iran anyway?

IMO, Iran has shown absolutely amazing restraint given the circumstances.

Dubai is on a Saudi peninsular, that reaches into the persian gulf only about 20 or 30 miles from Iranian territory...and US warships are not only routinely loitering just a few tens of miles off Iran, but opening fire on craft in the area?

I can imagine how the US would respond to a fleet of Iranian warships at that distance, let alone what the US Navy would do if boats were being shot at and people killed by them!

Iran isn't the troublemakers here...as i say, they are showing amazing composure which wouldn't be reciprecated in a million years by many other international Navys, not least of which the US navy.

I'm white Anglo-Saxon British, in case anyone was wondering if i were from elsewhere.

Occam's Razor, folks...

The surface navy has been on edge ever since the USS Cole incident and has re-written the ROE for small boat attacks. There is no way in hell any USN ship will not open fire on a small boat that disregards repeated warnings to break off and is accellerating rapidly on a collision course.

All someone onboard the encroaching vessel had to do was hold station just outside of 50 yards and do the international "We need help!" signal and a RHIB would have been dispatched with a corpsman onboard.

There's as always very little to go by other than their intel. A fishing vessel with four Indian fishermen 'accelerating rapidly on a collision course'??? They'd better come up with some official story soon.
