End of an era: Italy's Berlusconi resigns

ROME (AP) — A chorus of Handel's "Alleluia" rang out Saturday as Silvio Berlusconi resigned as Italian premier, ending a tumultuous 17-year political era and setting in motion a transition aimed at bringing the country back from the brink of economic crisis.

Berlusconi stepped down amid jeers, cheers and heckles of "Buffoon" from thousands of people who packed downtown Rome to witness his government's downfall after a stunning week of market turmoil that upended his defiant hold on power and threatened to tear apart the eurozone.

Respected former European commissioner Mario Monti remained the top choice to try to steer the country out of its debt woes as the head of a transitional government. But the job is Herculean, given the enormity of reforms required and Italy's often-paralyzed parliament.

He could obviously read the writing on the wall.

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to poor

Now if we could get the rest of the politicians and bankers to follow suit, all our problems could be dealt with by civilized people as opposed to the savages at the helm currently.

Respected former European commissioner Mario Monti

Fro his wiki

Quote:Monti is the first chairman of Bruegel, a European think tank founded in 2005, and he is European Chairman of the Trilateral Commission, a think tank founded in 1973 by David Rockefeller.[4] He is also a leading member of the Bilderberg Group [5].

Monti is an international adviser to Goldman Sachs and The Coca-Cola Company.[6]

Political career

In 1994 Monti was appointed to the European Commission, along with fellow-Italian, Emma Bonino, by the first Silvio Berlusconi government. In his capacity as European Commissioner from 1995, he was responsible for "Internal Market, Financial Services and Financial Integration, Customs, and Taxation".

Four years later, in 1999, Massimo D'Alema's government confirmed his appointment to the new European Commission under the presidency of Romano Prodi. Thereafter he was responsible for "Competition", in which capacity he initiated anti-monopoly proceedings against Microsoft. He also led the investigation into the proposed merger between General Electric and Honeywell in 2001, which the European Commission blocked.

The second Berlusconi government did not confirm him in 2004, and proposed Rocco Buttiglione in his place. Since Rocco Buttiglione was rejected by the European Parliament, the government proposed Franco Frattini.

In December 2009, He is appointed member of the reflection group for the future of Europe, chaired by former Spanish Premier Felipe Gonzalez. In this forum, He takes position for an economic government for Europe and a European Monetary fund. He pleads also for a New European Deal with a better coordination between social and economic issues in Europe.

In 2007, He is one of the first supporters of the first European civic forum, Etats Généraux de l'Europe, initiated by European think tank EuropaNova and European Movement.

In 2010, Monti was entrusted by president Barroso to produce a Report on the future of the Single Market proposing further measures towards the completion of the EU single market.[7]

On 15 September 2010 Monti supported the new initiative Spinelli Group, which was founded to reinvigorate the effort for federalisation of the European Union (EU). Other prominent supporters are: Jacques Delors, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Guy Verhofstadt, Andrew Duff, Elmar Brok.

On 9 November 2011 Monti was nominated to become a Lifetime Senator by Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.[8] Mario Monti was seen as a favourite to replace Silvio Berlusconi to lead a new unity government in Italy in order to implement reforms and austerity measures.[9]

This is what we're are dealing with today in Europe BureucRATs, that have NEVER been ELECTED to office by the WILL of the PEOPLE, even in the SHAM elections that we've had for years. This guy has POO all over him!

With both the passing of G PAP in Greece and Berlusconi in Italy ( Both covered in POO) by banker decree and their automaton market algos that do their bidding. We have entered a dangerous new phase, where there has been no uproar about two blatant changes at the heads of two EU States. Without the will of the people, who continue to allow these BureucRATs to run the course to a Fed/Commie based EU.gaah.gif
