Black customers sue Denny's for asking them to prepay for their meal

Denny's history with black customers could be described as strained, and a new lawsuit that's just settled out in California certainly isn't going to improve that relationship. Henry Williams and Renee Hebert claimed that back in 2014, an L.A. Denny's made them prepay for their meal — a tactic with a history of being discriminatory — because they were black.

Williams fronted the eatery about $80, which manager Ali Rahman eventually tried to return. When he tried, it seemed obvious to them that Rahman knew he'd screwed up, because Williams says he had to plead with Rahman to stop coming over to the table and bothering them. After he offered free dessert, they told him they'd actually rather just take their food to go, so they got it boxed up and left. Williams and Hebert say that nobody else was asked to prepay and that they waited longer than the other guests.

I've only been there a few times and never had food that was fit to eat. I will never go back.

They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to poor

Denny's restaurants seem to be popping up everywhere here in SW Ontario, Canada...why? For the American visitor to feel at home? We never eat there.

And, yes, I do not prepay for food - except in some take out situations where I have seen people hold the bag of food back until payment is received Maybe they had snatch and runs in the past.

I've never been to Dennys, but I would imagine prepay is SOP.

I'm in my seventh decade on Earth. I know things.

This issue has popped up a few times in discussions with friends of mine lately - the idea of non-white racists. Wonder how many people just seeing the headline assumed defendant in the suite was Caucasian?

I hate Denny's, but they have cheap items on the menu and they're open 24/7. On various road trips I've been to them, in at least a dozen different states. I'm white, my spouse is brown and not once have we ever been asked to pre-pay.
