Canadian army investigate mysterious 'pinging' sound coming from sea floor

The Canadian armed forces have sent a crew to investigate reports of a mysterious “pinging” sound that seemed to be coming from the sea floor.

Hunters in a remote community in the Canadian Arctic have become concerned about a pinging or beeping sound they say they’ve been hearing in the Fury and Hecla Strait, a channel of water that’s 120km (75 miles) north-west of the Inuit hamlet Igloolik.

Paul Quassa, a local politician, told CBC that the sound seems to be coming from the sea floor, and is scaring animals away from a popular hunting area of open water surrounded by ice that is usually abundant with sea mammals.

I hope they'll share their findings 13.gif

I read that article. My first thought was that it was a device put there by the PETArds to scare away the wildlife so the local Inuit could not hunt and feed their families this year. Those morons actually believe that the locals can just run down to the local grocery store and stock up any time they please.

I was thinking that too... If they're responsible I hope they're all eaten by polar bears.

If the pinging wasn't bad enough to scare off marine life.

Unfortunately, we may now see more and more cruise ships up that way, scaring off the marine life.

Canada's oceans get $1.5 billion in marine protection. What is interesting here, is that this will include giving whales the right of way. So, it makes me wonder, what were ships doing before...ramming into them? sad2.gif

So, Greenpeace denied planting a device.

They are not ruling out submarines (whose?).

The mining company denies putting devices on the seafloor. (Hmmm)
