I have never seen a Gloster before, do you have to give them haircuts? Are they considered the sheep dog of the canary world?

İmage

No, bird feathers do not keep growing like hair. They grow up to their genetical lenght. They drop and replace the feathers once a year during their moult.

Glosters are one of the classical type of canaries, bred since the 1920 in Glouchester UK, and were given the name of the place in short.

Canaries come from the finch family, different species are found everywhere around the world. The canaries have been domesticated since the 1400s when the Spanish ruled the canary island. Since then breeders bred them in captivity in various forms (types), and colours.

Their story is so interesting that most of the different breeds were named after a place like; Norwich; Yorkshire; Lancashire; Fife; Gloster; in UK and others like Parisian; Dutch; Italian; Spanish; German etc. In the late 1800s there was a new breed, claimed by both the Scottich and the English who quarrelled about it for some time. Then they got to an agreement and the breed was named the Border Fancy.

“Our lives are not our own. From womb to tomb, we are bound to others, past and present, and by each crime and every kindness, we birth our future.” ― David Mitchell
