I prefer it with cabbage and potatoes, but a sandwich is good too, but I'd prefer a pastrami sammich all around

Corned beef sammy is fabulous, but I prefer a Montreal Smoked Meat sammy in a little hideaway in Montreal, Quebec...the best sammy I ever had. drool.gif

I love corned beef. Yum. My flatmate makes the best corn beef. Heavenly with lots of spices. I love slicing if really fine and just stuffing it my mouth from the chopping board. Its addictive stuff.

It's a lesser* cut of beef, which should be cooked by placing in a pot of water and simmered, (low-boiled), for several hours.
About 30 minutes before eating, place potatoes and/or cabbage into the water and cook along with the beef.
Pot roast, (bottom round), is another great meal, but be sure to sear the meat on all six sides before adding enough water to reach the top of the meat in the pot. (Searing the meat sets up a chemical reaction during cooking which enhances the flavor). Cook for about two hours at least.

Both of these meals are very simple and go a long way, and each can be served as a sammich meal after the original meal is consumed.

*lesser in a sense that it's not Prime Rib etc.

Oh I see. I could probably have googled that. chuckle.gif Well there's a whole range of dishes that are made like that traditionally here too. I guess the name 'corned beef' threw me off. I know there was canned corned beef floating around here after the war, but I think a lot was bought from the Americans that didn't want to bring it back to the US as was the case with a lot of vehicles and other war material. Oh and a whole bunch of drugs.
