Eastern Cape Health Department spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said the two mortuary attendants who were on duty fled the building, thinking they had seen a ghost, according to the report cited by website news24.
"The [man's] family called a private undertaker who took what they thought was a dead body to the morgue, but the man woke up inside the morgue on Sunday at 5:00pm (3.00 AEST) and screamed, demanding to be taken out of the cold place," Kupelo said.
An ambulance was sent to the funeral parlor, at Libode in the Eastern Cape region, to take the man to a hospital. He was treated for exposure because he had been subjected to extreme cold for nearly 24 hours.
