Hoover Dam reservoir is shrinking so fast it could threaten Las Vegas water supply

When it was created in 1935 by the building of the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead was the largest artificial lake in the world.

But the glorious Nevada lake, which has provided decades of water sports and boating, has lost 4 trillion gallons of water in the past 14 years.

Satellite photos that chart the effect of a drought that began in 2000 and is starting to threaten the Las Vegas water supply reveal the dramatic extent to which the reservoir has dried up.

Vegas should not be. That's a lot of city for such minimal water resources.
Bad planning.

I don't get this concern about water, it's the most abundant substance on the planet. 3/4 of the surface of the freakin world is water and desalinization/purification is cheap. Sorta makes me think of the AGW scam. They want m o n e y.

I'm a bit concerned about freshwater. The Colorado river for instance is basically so pimped out by the time it reaches Mexico it's just a mud ditch. People used to be able to feed their families down there by fishing in the river. Also irrigation is incredibly insufficient and in some arid places along the way about 60% of the water evaporates before hitting ground.

Not to mention luxury resorts / subdivisions with artificial lakes in the fukn desert.... gaah.gif
