I am not exactly sure what the point of this is, but..

'Residents in Quebec's Gaspé region are cutting Canadian bills in half to create a new local currency they call the "demi."

No one really knows who started the practice, but $5, $10 and $20 bills, sliced down the middle, have been showing up since the spring.

Residents and some local merchants have been using them, accepting their value as half of the original bill.'

i dont understand why they are doing it..

Maybe because they are split. Half the nation sucks up to the Queen Elizabeth the other half are gun owners that take no shit. They also have two languges French. Many are not comfortable with Canadian China deal. China is taking up land many Canadians are left out.

Maybe they are bad at math, ripping bills down the middle to me = the dollar being at $0.50.
