Quote:Doctors in Tromsø [Norway] set fire to a patient who was undergoing a heart operation, causing her to wake up with third degree burns.

After spraying the patient with surgical alcohol to disinfect an open would, they then began to use an electrical scalpel, which unfortunately ignited the fluid.

"During my 25 to 26 years at the hospital, I've never heard of a similar incident. However, the literature says that the use of disinfectants with diathermy can cause ignition. Last year there were some 100 instances of this in the United States."

That just goes to show us how bad the communication is in hospitals. New and exciting equipment is being used but the top doctors/scientists don't bother to let the people in the purchasing department know what products will not now work. Or, perhaps, the top doctors/scientists' common sense eludes them.

99% of the time doctors can f##k up all they want and never really suffer for someone elses inflicted suffering because they have very expensive high quality malpractice insurance that covers their elite a$$es and protects them from the patients they occasionally maim and cripple and sicken...

A doctor around here in Quincy,Mass. during the 1990s AMPUTATED THE WRONG LEG AND STILL HAD TO REMOVE THE OTHER ONE and that doctor wasnt fired or jailed they just sat back while their insurance protected them...

Certainly aint the first time its happened...

My legs to me are priceless...

Takes a lotta $$$ to buy your way outta jail...

Quote:Wrong site surgeries run the gamut, including performing knee-repair surgery on a patient’s good knee, remove the wrong kidney, amputating the wrong arm, inserting an ear tube into the wrong ear, or even operating on the wrong patient. The heading “wrong-site” also applies to the tragic case out of California in 1999 when a couple at St. Joseph’s Hospital learned that they had received a baby who did not belong to them.

Life is like a penny, you can spend it on what you like, but you can ONLY spend it once.
