ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) -- A dog ate three of his owner's toes as the diabetic man slept, most likely out of instinct to help remove diseased flesh, animal experts say.

13.gif I'd think I would wake up rather quickly if our dog was chewing my toes off. One would have to be pretty damn drunk to sleep through that.

His toes must have been in bad shape for that to happen. Diabetics can lose the blood flow to their toes. When that happens, the nerves die and they lose the feeling in their toes. They often have sores and don't know it. The sores get infected and can turn gangrenous. The dog did him a favor. He should reward the dog, not get rid of it.

It isn't a pretty disease at all. You wouldn't believe his legs, the skin is like tree bark, very hard and scaley. I make a balm each spring from poplar buds (similar to Balm of Giliad) and it seems to help more than anything. And he keeps drinking the diet soda gaah.gif

we in surgery often remove the gangrenous limbs of diabetics.they loose circulation, and they cant feel anything when this happens, so often they arent even aware that there is a problem.
the poor pooch was probably "helping" as gross as that sounds.
But I have to admit that I would have a REAL hard time going to sleep with my dog in the room after that,,,,,,,, (what else would be eaten when you wake up?)damned.gif
