I've just donated my body and remains to the university medical science, next I only need to put it in my will.

Just wanted to make sure that I've been worth something in this lifetime.

Your the first person i've ever known or talked to who has offered to do this for the benefit of others and i do commend you for your ability to see so far beyond yourself...

I do not consider it heroic at all.

The body is not ours, it is given to us for a lifespan.
It's like a battery when it's life is over you either damp it or else give it for recycle.

I think I (we) should make the most good use of it, better than to feed it to worms.
Who knows, maybe it will help on the study and improve the body that I will be given next time around.

but what's the opinion of your friends and family about this issue?

i mean when you lose someone you don't want him or her to end up in an autopsy where medical students pick him or her into pieces. 13.gif

I think family and friends have different mixed opinions.
None of them really can make a difference in my idealogy. If only I could ease their mentally in accepting life as it is, and that the body has an end. I hope the act will help them realise.

And I, why not, I do not mind if any of my loved ones' body end up for study. It's not as if I will be able to hug them anymore either way.

I read somewhere that even though you have specific requests in your will that your last wishes may not be followed by the executor of your will.

Are there measures or a database in place, that will automatically make the medical and university staff aware of your final moments and donation desire?

There's an agreement with the university, they must be informed within 12 hours of the certified death by close relatives. Then they will take of all arrangments after that.

Beside the will there are lists of regulations, like the body can be not accepted if it had a disease, and theres is a list of the illnesses. It will be kept maximum of 2 years although 1 year is the norm. Then the university will take care of a burial in a manner according to the family wishes.

I don't think I'd want to donate my body to science to be honest. I want to be left in peace (and in one piece) in the ground or cremated doesn't matter. At least that's how I think about it right now.
