They are worried here too about the corn and soya crops. The next two weeks will be critical, but look at the video - I don't think they will recover even with a good rainfall.

It'll gradually get worse.

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to poor

Yeah it doesn't look like a good rain could save the crops. sad2.gif North America and Russia, both huge grain producers, suffer from drought and here in Scandinavia and many places in Europe it's too wet. They still hope the grain harvest will be normal but expect the grain prices to rise here as well in the fall.

Going to get rough for a helluva lot of people if this gets worse, or even stays as bad as it is sad2.gif UniqueStranger, might be an idea to stock a few basic supplies now if you can.

I was just thinking that on the drive to work this morning. I'll stock up on canned veggies/fruit and pastas/rice and concentrate on making stews/spaghetti sauce, etc. One pot wonders with everything in it.

That sounds like a good idea. I expect everything to get pretty expensive here soon. uhoh.gif

We should start a cheap food & recipes thread.

I was just looking at that new diet fad: cabbage soup. But, you know, it's not just cabbage. It contains alot of nutritious veggies. I'm just not sure how filling it is, however, served with rice it should fill up the men in my life; they are really big eaters.

Here is the recipe I was looking at as a dieting option:

Actually, if the food prices skyrocket, I'll be buying more veggies like cabbage. Actually, my cabbage rolls are really good, filling, can be frozen, and my son has been asking me to make them, but they are work and I work full-time. I just can't get into it right now, but I may have to in the future.

We eat a lot of cabbage! It's cheap, nutritious and yes it's filling. I'm reheating my cabbage stew from yesterday as we speak! It's so good it's JR's favorite food at the moment! hi5.gif

Everyone at my pad likes cabbage too. Well there's one veggie that goes a long way. The same with cubanelle peppers, they are always less expensive that the other peppers and a good addition to any stew.

Adding flax to stews and such will also help everyone feel fuller, longer and help to lose weight and everyone in my home could stand to lose a few pounds.

I was just talking about my flax seed bread when you said that! I need to post the recipe to that, it's so amazingly good! And without grain! yay.gif

But I'm in the middle of cooking right now so it'll have to wait for a little bit. beercheer.gif
