Olympic organizers are investigating why rows of seats at some venues were empty on the first full day of competition at the London Games.

Cameras captured rows of vacant spots for swimming heats, volleyball, gymnastics and equestrian events on the opening day of the Games on Saturday, even though the events were supposedly sold-out.

What did they expect I guess should be the question. A time honored tradition has taken a backseat to a war on terror. I'd venture a guess nobody feels very safe there sad2.gif

Send in the soldiers (to fill the empty seats): Extraordinary new Olympic ticket farce as troops are drafted in to venues left half-empty after sponsors fail to show

- London 2012 chairman Lord Coe reveals students and teachers are also being called in at the last minute

- Large areas of empty seats seen in stadia for the second day running

- Fans could have their tickets upgraded to fill more expensive areas reserved for Olympic VIPs, Lord Coe reveals

- Some tickets also being recycled and re-sold as spectators leave - as happens at the Wimbledon tennis championships

- Organisers Locog have begun an investigation into the ticketing fiasco

People are realizing that the Olympics are nothing more than pro athletes competing for sponsorships.

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to poor

That kind of sucks the sport out of it. bored.gif I still think the pres and congress should wear NASCAR type suits with the corporate logos of those who sponsor them.
A nice BP logo would give their constituents a warm fuzzy feeling in the underwear. 15.gif

I think the only way to save the games is to go back to ye olde tradition to compete nekid.

The audience could be nekid too, it'll save hours in security check.

Got nothing to do with the fact that the economy is in a depression of sorts and that the free tickets given to corporate sponsors haven't turn up. Because they are at work! Which they are lucky to have, instead of swanning of to the corporate games.

Beach Volley Ball has been great!
