On Monday (Sept. 22), at 10:29 p.m. EDT (0229 Sept. 23 GMT) autumn begins astronomically in the Northern Hemisphere. This also marks the start of spring in the southern half of the globe.

This date is called an equinox, from the Latin for "equal night," alluding to the fact that day and night are then of equal length worldwide. But that is not necessarily correct.

Tomorrow is also the end of the nice weather we've enjoyed the whole month, winter is coming! It snowed in Lapland last night. aaah2.gif

Robert Louis Stevenson (from A Child’s Garden of Verses, 1885)

In the other gardens
And all up the vale,
From the autumn bonfires
See the smoke trail!

Pleasant summer over
And all the summer flowers,
The red fire blazes,
The gray smoke towers.

Sing a song of seasons!
Something bright in all!
Flowers in the summer,
Fires in the fall!

Yeah I know that feeling, but I just bought some C&D&B vitamins to counteract the effects of less sun and have lots of warm clothing to stave off the cold.

I love fall, the high clear skies, crisp air and vivid colors. But when the leaves are off it's all grey scale tones and darkness. sad2.gif
