Now, gather up those leaves and use them as a 150 mm thick layer of mulch over the raised bed of Garlic you just planted.
Hint: chop them up, or shred them, so they don't laminate over the bed.
If they laminate, the garlic tends to bend over backwards to find light.
Leave the leaves on there all growing season, as they will deny any weed seeds the light required to germinate. ( Any weeds that do germinate will be so spindly that removal is easy, just don't disturb the mulch when you pull them ).
The leaves will break down and nourish the soil by next Fall.
If you use grass clippings for mulch, do not place too close to any new seedlings, as the heat generated by the decomposition process will be detrimental, if not fatal, to the new plants.
When mulching, remember:
Green = Nitrogen
Brown = Carbon

I only harvested about 275 garlic plants this year, so I doubled up for next year's crop.
I buy from this place.

Uzi,
I got two lbs each of German White Stiffneck, Montana Zemo, Music, and Polish Hardneck.
I like the hardneck varieties, even though they don't store as long.

My roots are from Ireland, and virtually no spices except salt were on the dining room table.
I met and married a woman from what was Czechoslovakia, she escaped just before Dubcek's Prague Spring, and made it to the USA.
She could cook like a pro, and I learned to appreciate seasoning in food.
She passed away 21 months ago and even though I was in a bewildered state of mind, I knew I had to eat better than the breakfast cereal and Pizza I had begun to live on. (Youtube can be your friend for video instructions.)
I've become friends with a former World Champion Bodybuilder, and her knowledge of food is complete, and she's not afraid to eat two steaks and taters and stringbeans, and after seeing how I cook, I got the seal of approval. (she's not too hard to look at, either.)
