I am like JR and welcome safe oil and gas extraction from the GOM. Most know I am in oil and gas business mostly far upstream now a days. I have worries about all this, the business has always been feast or famine and right now the US needs the product. Many employees are just flat tired of being laid off during the "famine" times and find new occupations or flat just retire. Regardless I see a large void in qualified oilfield personnel.
This has been going on for decades, larger "Big Oil" companies attempts to streamline seem to rely on manuals much like putting a model airplane together. If a problem comes up, look it up in the manual and follow the steps. Seems this is better than middle management, there are fewer and fewer thinkers out there that are qualified to make proper decisions in times of duress. More and more are taught to do what they are told to do and not think This is a real problem in my eyes.

I know the feelings many have about drilling for oil, the atrocities, accidents both personal safety and environmentally. Do not blame anyone as all the accusations of oil companies wrongdoings.

I am NO Big Oil advocate for many reasons, reasons mentioned above is 1-of them. I am more known as a renegade of the industry appreciated by many (usually the smaller independent E&P's) and penalized by others. I've personally been kicked out of a meeting of drilling engineers for Exxon Mobil before and was not allowed to work for them for 10-years. Fuckem, just because I told them they were wrong. Myself, I was proud of it. I will follow all instructions when they make reasonable good sense but nobody and I mean nobody is going to push me to do something I think is not sense able. I've walked off rigsites before and would do it again in a second if I do not agree with a their plan..

My purpose in this post is just venting off a little steam/sorry had a rough ass day...

It's ok, man. Let it out. We understand.

What politics from both sides wants to teach us is that things are never complex. If you have your little package and something doesn't fit into that package, You don't know what to make of it so you want to dismiss it or then you will have to do the work of reconsidering your assumptions. - Michael Malice
