The Greek Orthodox Church does in Tarpon Springs. I bet that lake water is pretty chilly this time of year.

I have to google it every year to remember why it's a public holiday here. Makes no sense whatsoever, but hey, it's a day off. thumbsup.gif

So it wouldn’t come as a surprise if you had started to feel down in the dumps.

But don’t worry, you aren’t alone, because today is Blue Monday – supposedly the most miserable day of the year.

Blue Monday was originally identified in 2005 by academic Cliff Arnall, who thought it fell on the last full week of January.

He calculated the date using a variety of factors including weather conditions, debt levels, failed New Year’s resolutions and the number of days that had elapsed since the end of the Christmas holidays.

But over the past three years, researchers analysed more than 2million tweets posted by Britons in January looking for negative language and phrases indicating a drop in mood.

They found that today, there will be nearly five times the average number of tweets relating to guilt, as people abandon their promises to pursue a healthier lifestyle.

The analysis, by drinks company Upbeat, also found complaints about the weather will be six times higher than usual – and men will feel more miserable than women.

Today has also been dubbed Divorce Monday by legal experts. It is the most popular day of the year for starting divorce proceedings. And January is the busiest divorce month, with twice as many divorces being filed as the second most popular month September.

Guess I get to be the opposite. Glad to not hear the constant fingernails on chalkboard
Christmas songs over n over n over again in most any store I'm in. Didn't spend (waste) money on worthless turds I don't see throughout the year and didn't care if I saw them on Christmas either. Don't miss the triple and longer lines with b!tchy holiday shoppers when stopping by the store after work for milk n beer. Don't have to constantly hear HAPPY HOLIDAYS from all those that have been conditioned to homogenize a "Christian" holiday to help others fit in that don't believe or celebrate a "Christian" holiday the way Christians or myself do. I wonder how the Pagans felt when the Christians stole their celebration. Anyway...the only draw back of the hollowdays for me was rearranging my sleep schedule for work after 20 days off. Otherwise...didn't drink any more than usual, no arguments with the wife or family, no divorce papers filed, no more debt than usual, no guilt from over spending OR under spending AND I'm not depressed . Don't tweet AND don't do facialbook cause I really DON'T CARE about your new cookie recipe or what you over spent on especially when you never post up the really sh!tty things you do to people throughout the year. Feel so much better for not going into the crazy overboard deviations from regular life. I try to treat strangers and those people close to me good all year long so as not to have to go overboard and beyond my means to make up for my year long neglect of those around me.
It works great for me...but I wonder how the hungry, homeless and the Toys For Tots recipients feel when the big Christmas givers are filing divorce papers, shredding credit cards AND hiding their wallets in January.

HAPPY FESTIVUS! 37.gif

We've had no snow, so everything looks dead.

A sun lamp and vitamin D will get you through AND of course...BEER AND BACOOOON!
