It's been a long time coming but I got money back from the tax man, so I am going to treat myself to a new mattress/boxspring set.

Although I am somewhat confused about all the different gel layers and whether or not 800 coil springs are just as good as 1000 coil springs even after researching it a little.

I am a side sleeper and change positions often so it seems I need to look at plush or a soft mattress with at least a 4" upper layer and my bedroom always seems to be 'hot' so I need a cooling feature too.

Geeze, I am still confused. lol

Select Comfort air beds for the win! There is no comparison between them and box spring mattresses.

Not only are air mattresses more comfortable, you also won't have 800 or 1,000 coiled metal antennas under your body. In the old days, that might not have been so bad, but today with the inundation of EMFs from the meters outside your window and from WiFi, routers, cell towers and so on, you do not want antennas anywhere near you.

I have to add that I'm a side sleeper and have wide shoulders so I'm particular about my sleeping gear. We got new pillows and that wonderful mattress and we sleep better than ever!!

edit to add that there will be no box spring bed setup over here ever again.

I am not sure what the coil metal is made of and if it can conduct EMFs, but good point.

Wow, that was a good deal.

So, I am definitely looking for a mattress/boxs set without coils but some pocket coil choices have the coils wrapped in material or foam. So I will definitely be looking at foam, but there are so many different types of foam on the market. Still confusing.

I must have low or no odour (very important, so it should be made of natural materials), and a lower profile with no pressure points and lumbar support and cooling. With all that, I am slowly inching my way up to a higher priced set. Also, I would prefer to buy Canadian so I will be heading to a mattress store with Canadian-made products. But I just won $3,100 at the casino so I will consider moving up to the next level.

Wait, I want one.

Funny you should post that comic, because hubby and I started off married life with a waterbed...but not for long because I am also a tosser and turner.

So, at least I have narrowed down the mattress down from gel foam to natural plant-based foam because of low to no emissions and the construction has more breathing spaces therefore a cooler sleep. I am going to try them out tomorrow.

I have now added mattress shopping to my list of 'no fun shopping'. Anyway, I picked out a mattress at an online store and went to the store and tried the mattress, which was a fail. I was determined to buy a mattress that day because I didn't want to try every mattress in all the stores.

So the sales woman suggested a new hybrid fusion Canadian made CFC-free, low emissions memory/gel foam and pocket coil mattress for $100 more. And since I get to try it out for 130 days, I said okay because it was also on sale for 50% off.

It will arrive in 2 weeks, but I will still want to air it out before bringing it into the bedroom.

I hope it works out because I really don't want to go through the hassle of returning it and shopping again for a replacement.

Thankfully the waterbed era was really short over here chuckle.gif Fun as a novelty thing, but I wouldn't want to ride those waves long term anon.gif
