Finnish media fall for ‘Soviet battle moose’ hoax

Quote: The Finnish broadcaster Yle fell for a Russian April Fool’s prank and aired a report about the Soviet moose cavalry. Now it is being probed by the media regulator for failing to correct its mistake after finding out the story was bogus.

The original hoax was printed in the April 2010 edition of the Russian version of Popular Mechanics. The story claimed that Soviet Union in the 1930s ran a clandestine program to train moose as cavalry mounts and even had some 1,500 infiltration riders ready for the 1939 war with Finland. The magazine supported its joke with doctored photos of weaponized animals and a manual titled: “The use of moose in cavalry units of the Red Army”.

You have to wonder if it is a desperation for ratings or a scoop or did they fall for all the propaganda and get sucked up in it to the point they will believe anything (like Liberals with Trump or many conspiracy theorists) or are they being told by superiors to report anything and everything that makes Russia (or Trump) look bad regardless of how retarded it is.

For those who didn't read the link, this story has circulated on Russian websites and social media for years. It's bad reporting of course by a national news agency to not check the sources. There have been unsuccessful attempts to weaponize moose in the past so that the Russians would try is not far fetched at all. The news completely escaped me, otherwise I would have posted it here chuckle.gif

What RT is doing is fact check other news agencies stories and call them out on fake news.
