[...] Obama broke a federal law that he signed just six months ago when he authorized the release of five high-ranking Taliban terror targets from the Guantanamo Bay detention center in exchange for the return of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, senior congressional Republicans claimed today.

The president may also have written a new chapter in the case for his own impeachment, according to a former federal prosecutor who helped bring the 1993 World Trade Center bombers to justice.

'The return of senior terrorists to the Taliban [is] ... a "high crime and misdemeanor"[...]

Obama 'clearly violated laws which require him to notify Congress thirty days before any transfer of terrorists from Guantanamo Bay, and to explain how the threat posed by such terrorists has been substantially mitigated,' House Armed Services Committee chairman Rep. Buck McKeon of California and Senate Armed Services Committee ranking member Sen. JIm Inhofe of Oklahoma said Saturday. [...]

A White House official told MailOnline on Monday morning that Obama's deputies were caught flatfooted by the intensity of public outrage in some quarters after Bergdahl's rescue by Special Forces.

'Everyone thought this would be a January 1981 moment,' the insider said, referring to the negotiated release of 52 U.S. hostages in Iran after 444 days in captivity. [...]

lmao.gif A 1981 moment? LOL - An error in calculations along the same line as "we will be greeted as liberators" and "mission accomplished"
It's very plain to see the law was violated here, what remains to be seen is, will anyone be held accountable, or as in other instances of potential wrongdoings, will congress hide their heads in the sand.
This is the icing on the cake for Dems with midterm hopes, and does not reflect well on Hillary.
It actually took the headlines away from the VA debacle, Benghazi, IRS among other ongoing scandals, all of which the WH denies are scandals. lol.gif
One has to work pretty hard at all the wrong things to have this kind of baggage swirling around them.

Two former comrades of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl have confirmed to MailOnline that their former platoon-mate walked away from his post in Afghanistan on June 30, 2009 with the intention of reneging on his military oath.

'I'm positive that he's a deserter, and that it was all premeditated,' said Gerald Sutton, a 31-year-old Michigan college student who left the military in September 2012 and said he was 'a good friend' of Bergdahl when they were deployed to the Middle East.

I'm not so certain any amount of spin negates the duty to uphold the law as the fekking president FFS.
Are all laws like the ADA where they can just cherrypick whatever they want to enforce or ignore based on politics and midterm elections?
We all know what happens to us if we break the law, but obviously, laws only apply to the little people. 13.gif

Given all the spin at that so called "news agency", I'm convinced that If CNN's legal analyst concedes that the law was broken, it was.
Yes, I'm going with CNN on this... damned.gif uhoh.gif

Now, lets enter the Hillary lunch date phase:

Republicans are raising questions about whether Hillary Clinton knew about the White House plan to release senior Taliban commanders in exchange for the last U.S. prisoner of war.

President Obama met with his former secretary of State for lunch on Thursday, two days before it was announced that Bowe Bergdahl had been released from captivity in exchange for five high-profile Taliban prisoners.

Republicans are furious that they were not told of the deal in advance, and argue that this broke U.S. law.

They are also suspicious that Obama may have informed Clinton, the likely Democratic frontrunner for the White House in 2016.

Also, Obama suggested that he did not violate federal law by releasing the top Taliban commanders — including the former commander of the Taliban’s army — without notifying Congress.

Instead, he simply said he was short of time to make the trade.

“The process was truncated because we wanted make sure we did not miss that window” of opportunity for a prisoner swap, he said.

Congress already knew he would do a deal, he said. “We have consulted with Congress for quite some time about the possibility that we might need to execute a prisoner exchange in order to recover Sergeant [Bowe] Bergdahl,” he said.

Who was consulted on this? As far as I know, nobody in congress is saying they blessed Obama to do this.
If members of congress did know and gave the nod, lets hope they are not up for reelection in November. 13.gif
I think this move was designed to get Benghazi and the VA off the front page, talk about mega backfire...

Obviously Oblahblah wanted those dudes released, he'd never swap them for an army deserter without damn good reason. PR stunt or something more sinister?

Putting the release of terrorists before the interests of national security is definite proof he has zero regard for national security.
This is as close to a political suicide decision as I've ever seen a sitting president make. This is the whacky stuff you do a few days before you leave office... hmm.gif
