Quote:It started with homes, then cars, and now penny-pinching Americans, especially minorities, are giving up cable TV because they just can't afford it in the lingering recession.

Instead, they are switching back to free TV, improved with the recent switch to digital broadcast which requires a special antenna but eliminates the $70-$100 monthly cable, satellite or broadband service fee.

An ownership survey conducted by GfK Media found that about 6.9 million homes abandoned pay TV last year, a shocking number that industry sources chalk up to the sagging economy. What's more, the survey found that the number of Americans watching only free-TV surged from 46 million to 54 million. GfK said that means about 18 percent of all homes with TVs, or 21 million, watch only free-TV, a jump from about 14 percent just five years ago.

Great stuff, we have NEVER had cable because we don't watch TV. Who wants to pay to be at receiving end of a sanitary sewer pipe?

gave it up ourselves because it's all available on the internet. We pay 35 a month for DSL and have more choice than when we paid 87 a month for cable.
ğck you comcast, your days are numbered.

What a racket cable is, you end up with 300+ channels of shït programming and movies you've already seen, and then there is the mainstream media bored.gif and people pay for this?

yes,, people pay, and they also pay money too.

the bill at steves house was $99 a Month

after 6 months

it was $254

i was there when the bill came in

His wife called to complain

Comcast told her that the bill reflected the paid programming ( Movies)
they had ordered

each movie was $5 you can rent a dvd for 99cents,,,, hell, you can buy DVD's for $1 at the pawn shop

His Daughters were coming over,,and watching without telling them,

they'd get bored with the movie,, and in the middle of it
order another one to watch,,

one after the other,, and then their friends would show up,,
and they would go out and sit on the patio

so no one was even watching the movies

"The Dysfunctionals" is what i call that Family

I ğkking CRACKED UP!

His wife went back to dish

The Daughters came over and did it again ( but at $2.95 each )

This time,,,

I left the enviroment

all to much for me to,, well Watch that Family
you know

We have saved about $2200 over the last 18 months by turning off our Direct TV.
