Quote:If you bank at HSBC in England, don’t plan on making any large cash withdrawals. At least not without a good explanation. Or, maybe even a permission slip.

That’s because a previously unannounced change in banking policy is blocking some customers from making large withdrawals without “evidence” explaining why they need the money from their accounts .

The policy affects customers attempting withdrawals for amounts as little as £5,000 ($8,253).

Three guesses why...

Quote:HSBC says it’s all done in the name of customer protection.

I am speaking of the life of a man who knows that the world is not given by his fathers, but borrowed from his children; who has undertaken to cherish it and do it no damage, not because he is duty-bound, but because he loves the world and loves his children… - Wendell Berry, 1971

Protection? Yes, we need to be protected against money. 13.gif
The overall pic... markets are tanking, and the scenario going on now looks a lot like 2008.
Or worse.
I don't think they can keep this propped up any longer.

One thing people do not realize is the money you deposit in the bank becomes a de facto loan to them and they can legally default on paying it back as easily as borrowers default on paying back the bank for a loan. It's all in the contract you sign when you open an account.

I guess this is limited to HSBC in Britain, because I bank with HSBC here in the USA, and there are no such limitations here.
