It's considered treason here if you don't get silly drunk and party like there's no tomorrow. You're integrating just fine JR! hi5.gif

Sunrise today at 3:08. Sunset today at 23:54. Length of day is 20 h 46 min.

It's like anti-Christmas because we celebrate the sun climax! hyper.gif It's the most beautiful time of the year! yay.gif

Quote:Before 1316, the summer solstice was called Ukon juhla, after the Finnish god Ukko. In Karelian tradition, many bonfires were burned side by side, the biggest of which was called Ukko-kokko (the "bonfire of Ukko"). After the celebrations were Christianized, the holiday became known as juhannus after John the Baptist

John the Baptist my ass. Midsummer celebration has never been anything but a heathen fest up here. lmao.gif

Quote:Many Finns leave the cities for Midsummer and spend time in the countryside. Nowadays many spend a few days there, and some Finns take their whole vacation in a cottage. Rituals include bonfires, cookouts, a sauna and spending time together. Heavy drinking is also associated with the Finnish midsummer.

hey there Octo and JR ...... got ya beat. almost 24 hours of sun here, north of Dawson, tomorrow but not as much beer here in camp as you have there. the party here consists of getting up and working all day tomorrow, but I will make up for it when shadow comes up for a visit next month, well, two weeks from now. Dawson has the top of the world party tomorrow on the dome, lots of heathens gather for that and lots of beer flowing, among other things.... take care , don't forget your sunscreen and beer goggles, oh yeah JR I have the same Google screen as you today
