On May 15, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) announced the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on June 3 on amending the U.S. Constitution to limit political speech. If ultimately adopted, it would mark the first time in American history that a constitutional amendment rescinded a freedom listed as among the fundamental rights of the American people.

The proposed amendment was introduced by Sen. Tom Udall (D-CO) as S.J.R. 19 and if ratified would become the Twenty-Eighth Amendment. It provides in part that “Congress shall have power to regulate the raising and spending of money and in-kind equivalents with respect [to] the Federal elections … [and] State elections.”

The proposed amendment includes a provision that “Nothing in this article shall be construed to grant Congress the power to abridge the freedom of the press.” So Breitbart News, The New York Times, and the mainstream media would be able to say whatever they want, but citizens and citizen groups such as the National Rifle Association could not.

Political speech is protected by the first amendment. If this dangerous precedent is set, it would effectively nullify some peoples first amendment rights.
I have no reason to believe this will be passed, and furthermore, this will be wildly unpopular, but it begs the question, just how out of touch is Harry Reid?
At a time when people are weary of giving up civil rights in return for smoke and mirrors illusionary protection, here he is backing a constitutional amendment that would eliminate free speech for SELECT GROUPS.
I have a feeling this will be Harry's swan song, the term, political suicide springs to mind.

Best we could hope for that he stops to do it while crossing the street and he gets run over.

When leftist Democrats were in school they read Animal Farm.

When they got to the line, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others, " they didn't realize the book was a satire, a warning.

Instead, they thought the line was a good idea.

You're right.

When I was in prep school, we were required to read all those types of books plus a few more.

I couldn't bring myself to read any of them because they were too painful. I couldn't stand creating a world in my head where these sorts of evil against the little guy took place.

How I ever passed is a mystery. Maybe it was Cliff notes or listening to class discussions.

Then in college we had to read a book where the main character kills a woman accidentally or at least recklessly. So then he dismembers her and burns her body up in the cellar heating unit.

Talk about being disgusted! It felt like I was being taken into a black hole of depravity.

We were supposed to feel sympathy for the killer. Sorry, but that didn't happen.

In any case, this is what passed for literature.

Who cares if someone can write a book and string together sentences well if they are going to write that kind of evil?

No thanks.

Pray for me. hug.gif
