The US health care system is broke, busted and 'bama couldn't care less.

Quote:Overall, ambulance revenues were more than $12 billion last year, or about 10% higher than Hollywood’s box-office take.

300 bucks/km is a bit over the top. 13.gif

I had to start reading some Finnish forum to find out what you have to pay here.

So in this instance a person went to the hospital in an ambulance, a ride around 10 km:

Total cost: €132.84
Social insurance pays: €123.59
You pay: €9.25

And with the fuel prices here? damned.gif

lol.gif So about (or exactly) €13.28/km in the dastardly socialist system vs. $300.00/km in the pre-obamacare non-socialist sytem.

coffeetime.gif

eta, obamacare will double this. Obamacare will bring the US down dooby down.

An article I wrote about health care a couple years ago

Quote:Some things need to be said here. The majority of you guys are successfull hard working educated (whether institutional or school of hard knocks) but you have one severe handicapp that limits your intellect to a degree that is disconcerting. The word socialist. Any mention of the word 'socialist' and all coherent thought flies. Your printer could die and it would be faulted on being made in a socialist country, or sold by a unionized store or delivered by someone who voted for Obama. I've been around GIM for a few years, and believe me, as a woman, a Canadian and a (was) socialist it hasn't been easy. I've taken my bashings and come back. But let me make a few things clear. Few of you understand socialism or it's original intent. All that's bad is labelled 'such', all that's good is labelled 'not such'. You haven't the inclination, perhaps even the intelligence, to explore what you so fear. So let's look at a few facts eh?

İmage

This is not about Obamacare, this is about the current 'for profit' system you have now. 60% of US bankruptcies are because of health care bills
http://articles.cnn.com/2009-06-05/healt...=PM:HEALTH
(no one in the OECD except the US has ever gone bankrupt over health care bills) of those Americans who do go bankrupt over h/c bills, 70% have health insurance
http://georgewashington2.blogspot.com/20...bills.html
Another argument I've heard is over prescription drugs. That Americans pay such high prices to subsidize lower costs for other countries. Absolute lie. Every time a drug is priced in another country, the R&D costs, manufacturing and delivery costs of the company are priced in before a final drug cost is set.
Education. Spend more.
İmage
For less.....
İmage
Recently I was told we Canadians have less choices, less freedoms. But guess what? If I decide to home school my child, the government gives me what it would give a public school to educate my child. The same with private schooling, tuition is all tax deductible. I can hear the argument already "The government gives you...stupid socialist" well I know they're my tax dollars returned to me. Duh. But guess what? Your government taxed you for public school then you paid again for home school or private school. Who's stupid now?
Socialism is not the answer, I've learned enough from GIMmers to know that. I also know capitalism is not the answer either. But discarding, out of hand, an ideaology with out ever bothering to understand or explore it is as inane and unproductive as bashing somebody because they don't agree with you or seeing insults where none were intended.

Look at this thread.

OMFG!!! Swedes get 8 weeks every year off work, decent pay and time with their families! G.D. socialists!! A fine example of a closed mind. Tell me OP, what's wrong with that? Then the counter argument:
Quote:there must be those who must do more only to be left with less
Well, why must there be? Just what if everybody did more to have more, and those 50 weeks were spent earning those 8 weeks?
So who would pay for those 8 weeks off? The companies and the horrific corporate taxes Sweden hits their entren7peneurs with? Hmmm...
According to this chart, the US charges far more corporate taxes than socialist Sweden
İmage
So the next time I ask what's so wrong with some socialism, I hope somebody will have a coherent argument that is other than "It's bad'

It isn't that I'm so much for socialism as against the ignorance and misunderstanding of perceptions that any system does not climax in corporatism.

Nice rant. chuckle.gif Yes it's the word 'socialist' itself that causes people's blood to boil for some reason. It's not about politics, it's national economy 101.

1. Ambulance chasers win about 25 Billion per year and pocket 8.3 Billion of that.

2. A medicaid patient with sickle cell got over 600 ambulance rides in 1 year. He used the ambulance because he did have to wait as long as if he walked in. The cost was over $110,000 so an ambulance ride short distance costs about $200.

If only one US resident per 3000 (1:3000) is an idiot like the sickle cell guy that is 12 Billion.

My sister (who drives the ambulance) got back to me regarding the price of riding the ambulance. They charge not according to km, but based on how long it takes. As an example she mentioned a trip from our hospital here in town to the next big hospital is somewhere between €400 - €470. And that's a 110 km trip. The patient still doesn't pay more than some €9.50.

damned.gif

So that trip would be around 33 000 USD if it was in the states? aaah2.gif
