Today, a Norwegian kicker who made a video of trick kicks that went viral got a tryout with the New York Jets. Let's look at why they, or some other team, should give him a chance.

Fricken badass.

Now if he can do that in the 4th quarter with 30 seconds to go from the 45 yard line with a wall of meat called the Pittsburgh Steelers are coming at you with hatred and full steam.

Are there any rules forbidding kicking instead of passing?

Me too! I don't know of any rule that says a QB can't deliver the ball with his foot. It's probably never been contemplated.

He appears to use the side of his foot so all his kicks are onside kicks.

The officials would view it the same as a quick kick and follow punt rules (his team could down the ball but not take possession).

A caveat to that - if he kicks the ball at, and hits, members of the opposing team it becomes a live ball.
