Quote:A House panel voted Wednesday to place Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his failure to comply with a subpoena, defying an assertion of executive privilege from President Obama.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, led by Republican Chairman Darrell Issa (Calif.), approved a resolution along party lines to place Holder in contempt after battling him for months over access to internal agency documents about the gun-tracking operation known as "Fast and Furious."

The vote came after Obama escalated the conflict by sending a letter to the committee claiming executive privilege over the documents the panel had sought.

All 23 Republicans on the committee voted for the contempt resolution, while all 17 Democrats voted against it. Every member of the panel was present for the vote.

Minutes after the panel's decision, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) announced that the full House will vote on the contempt measure next week.

Catch 22, Obama ordered exec priv on the docs at the last minute, now they put him in contempt for docs the admin refuses to hand over. At what point does Obama ask Holder to step down? This is election year, most presidential candidates would have already dropped him like a hot potato.
Obviously there is something in those docs that would indicate guilt, and it may go all the way to the top.
Of course we could be looking at a dog and pony show where nothing will happen, but congress seems genuinely pissed.

This could turn into Obama's Watergate in short order. This has to make them nervous in an election year. Him giving up Holder is the equivalent of the Bush admin firing Carl Rove.

The union that represents Border Patrol agents in Southern Arizona and around the country called Monday for U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to resign.

The National Border Patrol Council cited Holder's alleged dishonesty about Operation Fast and Furious in making the call. That ATF-led operation put guns from Arizona in the hands of Mexican organized-crime groups, and two of those guns were found at the scene west of Rio Rico where Agent Brian Terry was shot to death in December 2010.

The decision to ask Holder to step down came after more than a year of frustration about the Justice Department's handling of the controversial operation, said Shawn Moran, a vice president of the union who is based in the San Diego area. The department's failure to hand over emails that apparently pertain to Operation Fast and Furious to a House committee investigating the operation precipitated the call.

"This is something that all of our guys are concerned about because they know it could be any one of them," Moran said.

cheers.gif Good find AK. Seems the pressure is mounting for Holder to resign. The fact that all the admins moves make it appear as if they are hiding something won't set well for voters this November.
Calling exec privys was not the best choice that could have been made IMO.

I had a quite an in-depth thread on the gun walking at my economic forum. I see it's gone now. agent_smith.gif

Anyways, I think you're right JR, not the smartest move. As Yankees pointed out, he can only invoke executive privilege if he's involved. lol.

Eyup, even Druge has stuffed this away in favor of the Obamacare ruling that's supposed to come down from SCOTUS today.
Bet it doesn't even happen till Moday though. Regardless of the outcome, the US will stay screwed in the healthcare department.

How come it's always "resign" with the top dogs?

How about GO TO F**KIN* PRISON like the rest
of us, if found guilty of illegal gun-trafficking.

They only resign when they feel they could actually go to prison. The deck is stacked against the common man and in favor of the politicians because the politicians made the laws in the first fuckin' place.
