Here's an interesting study from the University of Notre Dame as to forgetfulness being caused simply by walking through a doorway into another room.

Quote:“The ‘walking through doorways’ studies now show that it's not just the amount of information coming in that matters but also the structure of experience,” he says. “When we walk from one room to another, information about people and objects that we were dealing with in the old room is less likely to be relevant, and it appears our memory machinery is optimized to take advantage of this, releasing that old information to make information about the new situation more accessible."

Quote:Radvansky conducted three experiments in both real and virtual environments in which people performed memory tasks while crossing a room and while exiting a doorway. In each case, walking through the doorway diminished their memories.

I believe we all do that from time to time to remind us that, hey...we're all just hairless monkeys.

Those doorway studies must be true.
When I walk out of a store these days, I can't remember where I parked or even which vehicle I'm looking for.

I'm in my seventh decade on Earth. I know things.

Yeah, I've forgotten where I've parked many times in the past and also misplace keys, but now I make it a point to stop and make sure I remember where my car is parked and that I have my keys. It must be doubly hard if you drive multiple cars. damned.gif
