G8 summit 'won't be held in Russia'

-- The G8 summit will not take place in Russia this year, UK Prime Minister David Cameron has said.

Speaking in the Netherlands, Mr Cameron said it was "absolutely clear" the planned June meeting of world leaders in the Russian resort of Sochi would not happen owing to events in Ukraine.

The EU and US have imposed sanctions on Russian officials after Russia's annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.

Moscow has also been warned of further action if it does not change course.

The announcement that the Sochi meeting had been effectively cancelled came after Russian troops seized control of the last major military base in Crimea.

Obama: Russia to Suffer Ukraine Costs

U.S. President Barack Obama says the United States and Europe are united in imposing a cost on Russia for its actions in Ukraine.

Obama made the comments to reporters in the Netherlands ahead of an emergency meeting of the Group of Seven, or G-7, which will focus on Russia's annexation of Crimea.

The group is comprised of the U.S., Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.

The White House has expressed concern about Russia's troop build up, warrning Moscow that further Russian moves on Ukraine would trigger a wider sanctions.

President Obama's official purpose for coming to the Netherlands is to attend the Nuclear Security Summit, but Russia's annexation of Ukraine's Crimean peninsula have become the main focus.

Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry are set to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

From what I'm reading, any real sanctions would hurt the US and EU economies as bad if not worse than it would hurt Russia.
Sanctions are a no win, and not enough to keep Putin out of the Ukraine if that's what he wants.
I don't believe it is, but what do I know? dunno.gif - time will tell.

What this means is that Putin will have more time for judo and karate.

Meanwhile, Obama will brush up on wearing women's underwear.

The EU would have the most problem severing ties. Finland gets most of it's oil from there, and gas is ungodly expensive.
It's not that Russian gas itself is so high, it's the EU taxes and legislators that are high. 13.gif
