Did the db, design, business logic and web page from scratch. Wrote it in PHP which I never used before but seems to be a very nice language. It wpdates every 10 minutes from about 10 news feeds. I plan to add about 10 more and rotate them around every so often. I'll also add a headline article at the top.

Nice job!  cheers.gif
Is it all automated, or do you select the headlines ala Drudge?
My only suggestion is spend ten bucks and get an SSL cert.

Yeah, I need to get a signed cert, will do. Also I've only spent 5% of my total time on the display. But that is where most of my time will go for now.

Right now it is fully automated, updating every 10 min from a cron job. I give priority ratings to news feeds and how many articles I want to pull from each feed. Priority 0 apps are sorted on publication date and go at the top. Priority 1 then sorted and go underneath etc.

It will remain mostly automated but i'll tweak which feeds I get news from based on what I like as I watch what comes over the wire. But the next thing I'll add is a manual major headline at the top, that I'll pick and update a couple of times a day if I have time.

A fully automated aggregator is a great thing, impressive for your first site, and yeah PHP is a very versatile language.
nownetnews is a real good website name, it's short and no hyphens or numbers.
SEO friendly name and SSL are huge pluses, the next big hurdle is doing the SEO's and get a Google webmasters account, and one for BING.
It'll give you great insights on search engine optimization.
The only other things I could add is make it responsive design. https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_responsive.asp
and figure out a nice logo, nothing fancy for something like this, but get the "branding" mojo on, Google loves that stuff.
You're def off to a great start. hi5.gif I'm never done with this place, that's the way it goes.

Aggregators save a lot of time of wading through stuff that doesn't interest you to find a gem.
