My sister-in-law has one and it will perch on her shoulder and she can walk around with ti.

Nice pet. The only problem is it is hard to control their vocabulary and they always seem to learn to say phrases such as, "here kitty, kitty, kitty".

That shows bad judgement on the part of the parakeet.

I had a yellow Parakeet once. Named Boomarang because I found him one morning perched on a fire sprinkler system in the apt complex I did maintenance for. I named him Boomarang because he instantly took to me like he was a long lost friend and found me again, but I could walk around all day long doing my chores and he would perch on my shoulder and work with me. He would take off and go flying for a little while and then he would come back. I could literally take this bird and throw him into the air as high as I could and he would span out, reduce altitude while doing a full circle around me and land right back on my shoulder again.

I always left a window open for him and the cage door open so he was never trapped. Always free.

One day, a thunder storm came and spooked him. It was at night and he flew right out the window and it was the last time I ever saw him.

I think it was an Angel. i seriously do. It came in to my life at a time when my ex wife had left me and FALSELY accused me of molesting my own children in an attempt to keep them away from me and then she kidnapped them. I went through hell and didn't do anything wrong. I really needed a friend at that time.

But needless to say, the parakeet left me as quickly are he came in to my life. I had him for about 2 months.

This thread reminded me of my mom...

When I went to visit once she had a parakeet. Of course, I asked if he said anything yet. (He was still a young bird.)

She said no ~ he only made a funny noise. Well...I was sittin' in the kitchen with my morning coffee and damned if that bird didn't have a smoker's hack ~ I thought I'd bust a gut when I told my Mom. That wee bird had her coughing ritual nailed to the wall.

Yes... it is in the nature of 'angels,' I suppose (whether they be bird, animal, or 'person' shaped), to come into a life, do the job that they came to do, and then leave again... much as we hate to think of losing them, and much as we may believe that we can't go on without their 'help.'

And sometimes they can finally just be driven away...

Well it's a comforting thought at least that these things may exist.
