The super is the hive, one is a nuc (nucleus) but as you stack more hives on it becomes a super. They're awesome chuckle.gif

chuckle.gif Had to go to town, see the accountant, get summer tires on my car. Yeah I'm 2 weeks late but we did have a snow storm here just over a week ago so I'm not sorry. And I never got caught cheers.gif and I spent the afternoon admiring my bees chuckle.gif

Capt Kwirk i know very little about bees, I'm not the one to ask, I just know I really like them and feel lucky to have them. I don't even know they're there unless I go right to the hives. Or stand under my trees. Yeah I've gotta get a vid of that on a sunny day when they're busy. It's amazing.

Yesterday I noticed a honeybee flailing around in the dog's water bucket. Almost drowned. So I fished it out with my hand then sat in the sun while it dried off and groomed on my finger. Ever watch a bee groom itself from 6 inches away? It's amazing. they have tongues! blink.gif well of course they do but the thought never crossed my mind until I saw it. Long skinny pinky red tongues. Took maybe 10 minutes to sort itself out then flew away.

One thing I've noticed is there's been no wasps or hornets since the bees arrived last June. Didn't have lots before but some. Now there's none. And more butterflys than I've ever seen. Bumblebees too, lots, but no hornets, no wasps.

I remember when I was a child I watched a drenched honeybee clean off the water with it's tongue. I never saw that again.

Was really cool. Once I fished a bumblebee out of my beer glass, 'cept I put it down, I thought it was drowned but wasn't sure. After a while it revived itself and wobbled away rofl.gif

First swarm yesterday 13.gif sitting in the shop ready to mow and I noticed bees everywhere, thousands of them buzzing madly every which way I thought wtf? I hardly ever see them even though they're just 40' from the house. The air was thick and the noise quite loud. I thought I wonder if this is the start of a swarm, calld the beekeeper, sure enough... took about a half hour for them to settle in a tree, more a shrub, a decorative cedar, on a branch about 2' off the ground. By the time D got there they'd moved to the grass in the pasture, D said very unusual, never saw that before. Of course we couldn't pick them up off the ground, would crush too many. They usually settle on a tree branch and you just brush them into a new clean hive. So we braced a hive on top of them and they slowly made their way into it. Happy now.

İmage

chuckle.gif hug.gif morning sweetiepoodles. Yeah it was really exciting. Then we went through all 10 hives frame by frame and found as many swarm cells as we could. D and her husband already have 100 active hives (101 now lol) I was gobbling honey right off the hive, taking a piece of comb here and there and forgot bee pollen makes me a little nauseated. rofl.gif

Oh and I also got to try 'royal nectar' that's what the drones make for the queen to eat. Sharp metally taste and not sweet at all.
