Ooo, I did not know that! hi5.gif Funny I was just thinking earlier today how nice it would be to have a beehive in the backyard here. Urban beekeeping is quite popular and you can even keep a hive on a balcony in an apartment building. yay.gif

They're sweet little things if not too annoyed, treat them gently and they will you. I never got stung even though I was right in the middle of a swarm, followed it until I knew where they settled. A lot of the trick is good vibes, they really do pick up on them. It was fascinating!!!! There must be a beekeepers organization there? You start with a nuc (nucleus) and go from there. I want my own but I want to learn everything I can first.

Yes, there's a beekeepers association, I think they provide information, education and starter kits. How do your dogs behave around the bees? Any problems?

The dogs pretty much ignore them, they'll walk right past the hives, 5' away, and the bees ignore them too. My dogs will try and bite wasps and hornets but they aren't bothered by honeybees. But since the bees arrived I haven't seen any hornets or wasps.

Another swarm yesterday aft, this one not quite so happy ending. I noticed about 1:00 another swarm, they settled on a fence post. I called D but no answer and about 4:30 they left for a stand of poplars across the road. I'd been asking for a bee suit and spare super with frames just in case this happened and I couldn't get anyone, but short of taking my dining room sheers for a veil, duct taping it to my shirt and a cardboard box to put the bees in, nothing I could do sad2.gif

I damn near did take down my drapes and go after the swarm anyways, but I kept hoping D would show up, and then they were gone sad2.gif I'm sure she was neck deep in swarms already and trying to deal with them, they have 100 hives scattered over a 50 mile radius. It would've been a dumb thing to do but I could've maybe caught them gaah.gif

Maybe you should buy a beekeeping outfit, just in case?

Thanks US!! cheers.gif I definetly would if I had my own bees but no reason they can't lend me one to look after theirs. Except I've asked but they haven't and it seems sorta silly to not give me the tools I need.

You're right JR a thin drape would do nothing to stop stings. I did put a carboard box with baffles right under them but they didn't go for it.

How about looking online for a used outfit? You may get lucky.
Actually, I was just looking around the net and there are DIY beekeeper suits you can make yourself.

I don't know if this is 3 small swarms, I suspect it's one that hasn't amalgamated yet, just started. Damn these're lively bees they brought this year rofl.gif
