That's interesting. In the old days, refined sugar was unheard of.

What timeline are you from?  damned.gif

I'm curious.
This looks delicious but at the end of the day, would you categorize this dessert as being more savory / sour or sweet?
I know that the rhubarb here is extremely tart and I need to add quite a bit of sugar along with either Himalayan black berries, Thimbleberries or strawberries.

Rhubarb is extremely tart here as well. I haven't ever tried or made a rhubarb strawberry pie before. And I haven't tasted it yet! It may taste like hell! But then I'm definitely making another pie with the salty caramel and some chocolate stuff on top...  drool.gif

You didn't taste it first?
That's bravery.
..or something.
LOL

I tasted all the goodness separately, but not together in teh pie uhoh.gif

Last fall I wanted to mix it up a bit.
I love to bake pies and generally make pumpkin, apple and Key Lime.
I decided to meltdown some semi sweet dark chocolate and spread it over the top of my traditional pumpkin pie and cool it.
Afterwards, it formed a crispy layer of chocolate goodness on top.
Big hit with my kids!
Of course they always drowned it with whipping cream.

That salted caramel gooey goodness is definitely going to be a part of an apple pie next. Apple pie with butter and cinnamon on top of those apples with that hidden gem of salty caramel treasure.... fatman.gif

No Pics?
Oh boo!
Congratulations anyway.

Caramel on apples sounds great.
I'm a pie purist however.
My apple pies contain a blend of apples for the exact sweet/ sour combo and only alcohol for seasoning (apple jack or other fermented apple products)

I prefer salty pies so this was a huge breakthrough.
