...on Manitoulin Island.

My daughter and I will set off this coming Tuesday on a 4.5 hr. road trip and 1.5 hr. ferry ride to Manitoulin Island to visit and stay with a friend who owns a small farm there. Our plan is to stay for 9 days, but we can stay longer if we choose.

Quote:Manitoulin Island offers many activities, programs for travellers and special events to take part in. But it also offers the opposite – a place to escape to, a place where you can intentionally set out to get lost, have your own unique experience with the beauty and nature the Island offers, and eventually, you will find your way home. It’s an Island after all. The Heart and Spirit of the Great Lakes of Canada, it is a place of convergence – the mountains with the lakes, the Indigenous culture with the settler culture, the northern eco-zone with the southern eco-zone, and quartzite energy veins with human destiny.

Except for the repeated warnings of lots of large mosquitos, this trip promises new experiences, such as, hopefully, attending an aboriginal pow wow and viewing the wildlife.

And, if we are lucky, we may see the aurora borealis.

Thank you Octo, I am sure we will have a wonderful time. I was just reading the local new there...mysterious turtle deaths...maybe attributed to ranavirus?

That's not good. I didn't realize you had so many different turtles up there. I love turtles, but we don't have any around here. tissueguy.gif

I didn't realize that about the turtle diversity either, and from what I am reading they have a diversity of birds too. It would appear this Island is a refuge for wildlife.

I will take pics and, if the satellite signal reaches our computers dunno.gif, I will post details. I just may partake of some aboriginal arts and crafts workshops, like the drum making one.

Thanks everyone, I just hope the weather doesn't get too hot because there is no air conditioning where I am going.

So you won't be contributing to the Global Warming crisis then?

Interestingly enough, my friend recently installed solar panels and is striving towards a complete 'off the grid' lifestyle. However, I might be contributing, because I asked her if I could bring along a fan and run it all night...if needed. LOL But, I just checked the weather there, and it seems it's 10 degrees cooler than here.

What politics from both sides wants to teach us is that things are never complex. If you have your little package and something doesn't fit into that package, You don't know what to make of it so you want to dismiss it or then you will have to do the work of reconsidering your assumptions. - Michael Malice
