'If you don't take a job as a prostitute, we can stop your benefits'

A 25-year-old waitress who turned down a job providing "sexual services'' at a brothel in Berlin faces possible cuts to her unemployment benefit under laws introduced this year.

Prostitution was legalised in Germany just over two years ago and brothel owners – who must pay tax and employee health insurance – were granted access to official databases of jobseekers.

Prostitution is like hustling hamburgers - except without the clothing and without the hamburgers.

There is a question of how distasteful a job the State can force you to take, if you want their free money.

I've shoved tons of manure before (some people say I still do...). Some people would consider that job too distasteful.

Would you prostitute your rectum to a man for welfare $?

Not the same thing - she has probably had sex before.and it won't be a new experience.

Just noticed that the web site is capitalizing sex. I'm not sure it is a proper noun.

Update - thought this through. You are being deliberately dishonest in your response. We both know the male equivalent is stud service., which might even be fun - and I am "up" for the challenge.

i cant believe its only been legal in Berlin for two years.. wtf?..

i dont think its ever been a criminal offence in Australia.. why should it be? the more prostitutes there are means less women getting raped and/or assaulted sexually..

i had this American client of mine a few years ago, who lived in my neighbourhood (in an inner city, expensive area) and one that is notorious for brothels and prostitution.. (its colourful chuckle.gif) and there was a new one opening up near her huge posh apartment block.. she lived on a waterfront park where there are quite a few issues late at night.. the brothel was a good thing, cause if it keeps men from raping or assaulting women in that park then its good.. its not fool proof though.. anyway all those rich idiots got it closed down.. same American women had a fit over a homeless man living under a walking bridge.. she was sick of driving past him and seeing him living there in a cardboard box.. (there are lots of homeless around here too).. i let her have it about that man.. its not his ğkking fault.. and she was a christian.. Jesus will not be happy with her soul on her day of reckoning..

Well, in the bad old days when "moral" crimes were illegal this problem wouldn't rear its ugly head.

However, if it is a legal profession and is the only available job... this objection ranks up there with refusing to take a waitress job because you have to be nice to people and it makes your feet sore.

There are distasteful aspects to any job. Women are forced by circumstances into prostitution. My belief is it usually isn't their first choice.

She has been on unemployment, apparently for a while. What the case probably comes down to is that the bureaucracy doesn't believe she is seriously trying to find a job.

The info we are missing is how long has she been out-of-work and how hard has she tried to find a job? How many other jobs has she turned down?

Postscript:
I find it curious this is a January 2005 article.

Note that this story is from 2005.

Quote:Early in 2005, English media reported that a woman refusing to take a job as a prostitute might have her unemployment benefits reduced or removed altogether.[21] A similar story had appeared in mid-2003; a woman received a job offer through a private employment agency. In this case however, the agency apologized for the mistake, stating that a request for a prostitute would normally have been rejected, but the client misled them, describing the position as "a female barkeeper." To date, there have been no reported cases of women actually losing benefits in such a case, and the employment agencies have stated that women would not be made to work in prostitution.
