In surprise move, Iran's Ahmadinejad to run for president

Quote:Iran's former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday stunned the country by unexpectedly filing to run in the May presidential election, contradicting a recommendation from the supreme leader to stay out of the race.

Ahmadinejad's decision could upend an election many believed would be won by moderate President Hassan Rouhani, who negotiated the nuclear deal with world powers. Though Rouhani has yet to formally register, many viewed him as a shoe-in following Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's recommendation in September for Ahmadinejad to stand down and conservatives' inability to coalesce around a single candidate.

Ahmadinejad's firebrand style could prove appealing for hard-liners seeking a tough-talking candidate who can stand up to U.S. President Donald Trump. His candidacy also could expose the fissures inside Iranian politics that linger since his contested 2009 re-election, which brought massive unrest.

I can't believe that.
It's been rumored for years I need a dinner jacket was one of the students involved in the Iran hostage crisis. He's wildly unpopular with the younger generation from the things I've read.

It doesn't matter. The position is powerless. Ayatollah Assahola has all the power.

What politics from both sides wants to teach us is that things are never complex. If you have your little package and something doesn't fit into that package, You don't know what to make of it so you want to dismiss it or then you will have to do the work of reconsidering your assumptions. - Michael Malice

He always did have too high of an opinion of himself. I wonder if he will survive crossing the Ayatollah.

People love to have someone to blame their problems on. It's easier to point the finger than make any constructive changes.

^this^ No one wants to take responsibility for their own shitty behavior. It's easier to point the finger to external sources and lie to themselves.
