An animal shelter in Indiana showed off what happened after it offered a Black Friday special: Every one of its animals up for adoption found a new home.

Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control lowered its puppy adoption fee from $100 to $10, and told prospective adopters they could name their own price for cats.

As a result, officials there said as many as 30 dogs and cats found new homes on Friday alone.

That's really wonderful. I hope the new families will treat them well and love on them and give them the tummy wubs they need.

I hope these pet purchases weren't impulse buys.

I hope so too. But I know there are families out there that find a big difference between 100 and 10 dollars and many of these people can provide more love than money could ever buy.

I hope that was the case here. I just see and deal with so many abandoned cats every year, I am jaded.

I posted it just because of my love for dogs. If a few went to good homes, god bless 'em.

Yup. All of our barking fur babies were rescues.

What politics from both sides wants to teach us is that things are never complex. We'd have a bed full of rescue puppies had there been a lot of rescue puppies to be had around here.

I would own a dog and cat. Too much wildlife here. The cat would be snacking on the baby birds in the springtime. The dog would be chasing the resident bears and barking at the deer. I have some concerns with the encroachment on traditional animal land. The animals are a future food source when the big grocery store has bare shelves. I have wild turkeys and ruffle grouse and quails also to look after.

I call them, Used dogs, usually with issues...but longevity forces togetherness and she's really working out quite well.

Perhaps they should rethink the cost thing. Quick adoption versus sheltering long term ~ there's a cost benefit ratio in favor of a modest adopt fee in there somewhere.

Win-win-win all the way around.

There are no long term sheltering costs. I believe they are euthanized after 7 days.
