Quote:Coast Guard found him floating on the Canadian side at around 1 AM, two hours after he'd initially entered the water.

Exactly how wide is that river?

Sitting in the Channel on 1/03/2012

a White Balloon looking thing floated with 20 feet of my cabin
Cruiser .

I thought about investigating it ,,,,, one second ,, and went on
to throttle up and out of the Channel into the River .

On my return the next day , I pulled up to an Inflatable
that had broke loose from someone's dock tie down .

Reaching out with my pole , I hooked it and pulled it to
my Boat , jumped on it , grabbed the Kleat line and tied
it to my Boat .

Two or three men up on the bank began to holler at me .

I cruised up to the bank ,,,

One of them announced " We're looking for my 12 year old Daughter ,
she fell over board off a Party Barge New Years Night,,,

She was wearing a " WHITE DRESS "

have you seen anything like that ? "

In reply I answered " No, but I'll keep an eye out ,
someone also lost this Dingy so I have to find the owner as well "

I climbed to my Command bridge and scan the channel
as the men kept walking west along the bank .

Nothing more was afloat in the channel .

Docking at my slip in the Marina , another owner walked up to me.

" Rog', they lost a Kid, little girl about 12 , she's wearing white ,
keep an eye out for anything white floating in the water while you're
out will you "

" Sure, see ya's "

About 3 hours later

The image of the White Balloon floating came to mind

" BAM ! THAT WAS THE LITTLE GIRL ,,, IT WAS HER DRESS FILLED
WITH AIR AS SHE SURFACED ! "

Too bad my memory had been messed with so hard .

Too Bad I disconnected from the World around me

Too bad the World is so corrupt that i refuse to see what is going
on around me .

Too bad i was more interested in getting away from people in the marina
for the weekend than I was in pulling in what I thought was trash .

I could have reunited the Family with their lost child .

One note here

NEVER drink or dilute your mind while on the water .

The Family had PARTY for NEW YEARS on their mind
mixed with Party substance , they lost their baby now .

That was 3 people lost that weekend just in a two mile channel all
in one night , within a couple hours of each other ,

DUE TO DRINKING , EXCEPT THE CHILD WHOSE
PARENTS WERE DRUNK .

Oh man, that's horrible!

Yup, no business being drunk on or in water, I agree. A bunch of people drown here every year for that very reason, especially during solstice. sad2.gif

it was horrible as well for the Guilt her dad was drowning in

the men were walking the entire length of the channel looking for her
body

By the time i figured out what i had seen floating

she had to of been 20 to 30 miles down river unless she hung up
on a dock or branches .

she was right there 20 feet from me ,, i saw her coming from a few
hundred yards away too .

My problem is , if it is not a hazard to my boat , or an unmanned
craft like the inflatable ,,,

I ignore it as trash or logs , those come loose and smack
your boat causing weak spots in the hull , so i watch for those .

One night in a storm i watched an Achilles Inflatable with
a very nice Mercury Outboard float by at about 15 miles an hour .

100 yards away from me .

All i had on my dingy were oars at the time , so i let it go .

Both my anchors were down on the sailboat , it was a hell of a
storm , and to get the anchors up and chase that Inflatable
would have been too much work for me .

Next day . Dave called and asked if I had an extra dingy to lend him .

HA ! there's a Nice Achilles headed your way ,
should be there about now Dave

throw out a line and hook it .

He was stuck on his boat in the storm all night

his dingy sank when a wake swamped it .

he could not get ashore lmao.gif

Matt Raced one of mine down to him 20 miles away and got it out to him
where he was anchored off 50 yards from shore .

Eric and I were cruising down river after the storm and found
the Achilles beached in the bushes
( that's why we were out, we were looking for it )

I called Dave

Hey Dave, keep the Hilaker dingy , I found that Achilles with the mercury
engine on it ,,,

I'm good for now with dingy's yay.gifyay.giflmao.giflmao.gif

Dave was pissed , he had been watching for that Achilles all day and
night .

No numbers on it , so it's a free boat , cause you can't find the owner unless
they advertize it being lost .

I did find the owner later

but no bodies
