Quote:It is a commonly known fact that astronauts living aboard the International Space Station grow up to 3 percent taller while living in microgravity. They return to their normal height when back on Earth. Studying the impact of this change on the spine and advancing medical imaging technologies are the goals of the Spinal Ultrasound investigation.

Quote:The Canadian Space Agency subsequently reached out to Shatner and invited the 81-year-old actor for a longer chat.

It has arranged a 10-minute conversation Thursday morning from L.A. Hadfield’s video link will be carried live on the CSA’s website: http://www.asc-csa.gc.ca/eng/webcast.asp

An interesting tidbit.

Quote:Russia's Federal Space Agency Roscosmos reported Oleg Novitsky, Yevgeny Tarelkin and Roman Romanenko used the station's Laser Communication System to transfer information through the Earth's atmosphere at a rate of 125 megabytes per second from an on-board laser terminal.

The total of 400 megabytes of data including earth imagery and telemetric information was received by the Arkhyz ground station in the North Caucasus, according to RIA Novosti (see http://en.rian.ru/science/20130129/179111471.html).

Quote:Hadfield also told Shatner that he served as an inspiration for his exploits in space, and invited the fictional space commander to visit his cottage in Ontario and sit out on the porch and look up at the stars and "compare notes."

I wonder if William Shatner accepted his invitation? They could sing row, row, row your boat. chuckle.gif

He really is a unique astronaut/scientist. I am sure he has inspired many young people to follow in his footsteps by sharing this truely unique experience with us all. Thank you Chris Hadfield, you are one of a kind.
